Exploring a Unique Steam Demo: Playing as a Poop with the Goal to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have found plenty of engaging independent titles. But, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game lets you play a protagonist that is literally a piece of poop trying to travel to a toilet. In case you're wondering, "Unko" means "poop."
Player controls is easy to grasp: just use a jump control. Across 150 challenges, battle mini-bosses and access a market to acquire customizations for your dung hero.
Execute your jumps with caution, since one wrong move requires starting over. Bounce using air pockets to hurl yourself to new heights, cross disappearing ledges, and touch triggers to unlock new areas. Collect coins and use them on tougher levels in which things intensifies.
Visually, the demo boasts neon level designs and a killer music score. Its minimalist visual style featuring shifting abstract forms may remind players of beloved games like Earthbound.
Although difficult to think of other games where you play as a dung character, video games frequently incorporated fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, you can create grenades from character droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ manure as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, fecal references is present extensively in the adventure The Stick of Truth.
Despite its goofy premise, Unko Technica has already garnered significant awards, like taking top honors at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is available currently on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to arrive on Steam in the fall.
